Budapest International Airport. Franz Liszt is the capital airport of Hungary, located at 16 kilometers from Budapest, with an annual passenger capacity of more than 13 million people.

At the end of the 30-ies of the last century, the Hungarian authorities decided to build a capital airport that would not only significantly simplify the communication between different countries of Europe, but would also allow the timely delivery of goods and mail.

Construction work began in 1942 year, however, because of the ongoing World War II, the plan was not realized, the polka in 1944 Budapest was occupied by Soviet troops.

 

 

In 1947, the country's authorities decided to unfreeze the draft civil airport, to which a significant amount of money was allocated from the state budget, and after another three years, the airport was put into operation.

In the second half of the 50-ies, the airport actively served not only domestic but also international flights, which necessitated an increase in the length of the runway, which also attracted foreign carriers.

In 1960, after only 10 years after the opening of the Budapest International Airport, Franz Liszt, the volume of serviced opltcm passengers exceeded the mark of 359 thousand people, which required the expansion of the functionality of this air harbor.

Thanks to the reconstruction, which was completed in 1970, already in 1974 the air harbor served more than 1 million people per year, while the airport route network was constantly expanding and covering almost all the countries of Europe.

In 1980, the volume of passengers served at the Budapest International Airport. Franz Liszt amounted to 1,78 million people, and after another 10 years, in 1990 year, this figure reached a value of 2,5 million people.

Due to the growing performance of the main air harbor of Hungary, in 1997 it was decided to build a new terminal that would increase the number of aircraft and passengers received.

Its current name is Budapest International Airport. Franz Liszt received in 2011 year, in honor of the 200 anniversary of the composer Franz Liszt.

In 2017, the volume of passengers served at the Budapest International Airport Franz Liszt was more than 13 million people, and by 2020, this figure is expected to increase to 15 million people.
