Luhansk International Airport - since 2014, the completely destroyed airport of Lugansk (Ukraine). At the present time is unsuitable for the production and reception of aircraft. It is located at a distance of 9 km from the southernmost point of the city. The distance from the facility to the center of Lugansk is 20 km.

History

Lugansk airport was opened in 1964 year. Construction was carried out at a heightened pace, taking advantage of the many local companies (Krasnoluchsky and Kadievsky avtotresty, Ilichevsky rudoremontny plant Luganskshahtstroy, Luganskdorstroy et al.).

In just six months, failed to meet with construction work around the construction of the terminal building, equipment, runway, hangars facilities, ancillary facilities and technical services.

In 1974 on the basis of the Lugansk airport created 99 flight squadron of six planes An-24, 1989 in the year attributed to him two of the Tu-154-B2.

In 80-ies of the object it was done about a hundred daily departures and the daily passenger was from 1200 people. At this time the airport serves flights operated on aircraft An-24, IL-18, Yak-40, Yak-42, Tu and Tu-134-154.

After the reconstruction of the airport and runway 2005-2006 years. the object was able to take aircraft such as Boeing-737, Airbus A320 and An-124.

In 2010 was replaced by team based airline "Lugansk Airlines", which ceased to exist, come "UTair-Ukraine".

In 2013, from Lugansk airport there were regular flights to Moscow and Kiev by Utair-Ukraine airline, charters to Thessaloniki (Astra Airlines) and Antalya (UIA). 

Because of the economic problems in April 2014 of regular flights from Lugansk not sent. From May 2014, the airport is closed indefinitely. The airspace above its territory and closed for flight vehicles of civil aviation.

9.05. 2014, the LC militia blocked the territory of Luhansk Airport soldiers and the National Guard under the ground forces of Ukraine. According to estimates from various sources in the insulation were 500-2000 servicemen from the Ukrainian side.

14.06.2014 city - near the airport militias was shot down IL-76, including the Air Force of Ukraine. The crew from the 9 40 people with paratroopers were killed at the crash site. The following day - July 15 2014 years - announced by the Government of Ukraine as a day of mourning.

In the summer of the year 2014 machinery militia kept surrounded by gunmen and soldiers APU located at the airport. The surrounding areas of the airport were fierce battles for the installation of the main supply corridor militia groups LC, located in Lugansk.

After building the militants its forces heavy military equipment in August 2014, they went on the offensive and completely closed the ring in Lutugino Ukrainian security officials and airport area. The absolute seizure of the airport and the squeezing out of it came the soldiers of the Ukrainian side 1 September.

As a result of the active use of heavy artillery airport infrastructure suffered significant damage, most of it can not be restored. In particular, this applies to the terminal building.

From 1.09. 2014. Luhansk airport is controlled by the LPR forces.
