The plane flew to Skopje for a load of fans, which was intended for sale in Ukraine. The flight took place during the day. On the flyby of the beacon VOR Skopje, being on the scheme of call, the crew changed course so as not to enter the storm front. The flight continued with the course of 230 degrees, which led to the mountainous region, although it was necessary to continue the flight with the established scheme of approach to the 34 strip by the course of 163 degrees. Determination of its own location in relation to the airport was hampered by the impossibility of using radio-on-board airborne equipment. The connection to the board in 20: 23 has ceased. Being outside of the approach scheme at an altitude less safe, the crew began a turn for the course of 140 degrees, at which the aircraft collided in horizontal flight with Mount Lisatz (1934 m) at an altitude of about 1600 m at 26 km southwest of Skopje airport with poor visibility, Burnt and collapsed. 2 aircraft and 6 crew members were killed.

Second An-12, which operates flights on the same route and flew ahead of the Simferopol airport, went to the alternate Sofia.

details

When approaching a landing in a mountainous area, the crew was absorbed in the task of accessing the circuit and preventing the entry of thunderstorm activity into the seats. The tools that can alert the crew about the danger of a reduction in the future (such as the PSTN) were not on the plane. The crew, having decided to leave the scheme, was not sufficiently clearly aware of their position with regard to natural obstacles. So, according to the negotiations at MS-61, the crew at the thunderstorm detects the least safe altitude 6000 feet (1830 m), although in fact the lowest safe height in this area was 10400 feet (3170 m).
