Aircraft series Avro RJ (Avro Regional Jet), are a continuation of the development of regional aircraft family BA.146. Avro RJ airplanes were developed by Avro, which is part of the united British aircraft manufacturer British Aerospace. These aircraft, due to not high noise levels, are focused on operation at airports located within the city limits and are intended for flights on short and medium routes with large passenger traffic.

Unlike its predecessor, Avro RJ aircraft have more powerful engines, an updated board and navigation equipment, as well as a reinforced chassis design, the fuselage and the bearing surfaces.

In 1990, British Aerospace, a British aircraft manufacturer, reported on work on modernizing the VA.146 aircraft. The project of the new aircraft received the designation Avro RJ.

The new aircraft has a tighter concept in the form of a circular fuselage with a high-lying main wing and a "T" -shaped tail with horizontal elevators. Under the wings on the pylons are placed four turboprop engines. Initially, ALF-502 turbopropeller engines were selected as the power plant for the new aircraft, but in the final version, AlliedSignal / Honeywell LF 507-1F engines were installed, each using 27.3 kN.

On the plane was equipped with modern navigation equipment CNLS 910 production «Rockwell Collins» American firm, digital avionics and radio ARINC-700, production «Aeronautical Radio Incorporated».

The first model from the Avro RJ family that rose into the air was the Avro RJ-85 version, which is a continuation of the model BAe.146-200. The flight of the Avro RJ-85, under the serial number G-ISEE, took place on 23 March 1992.

This version in the dense configuration of the passenger compartment allows you to place up to 100 passenger seats. In the usual configuration Avro RJ-85, designed for the transport of passengers 82. The flight range of the aircraft is 2530 kilometers. Avro RJ-85 flight speed is 750 kilometers per hour.

Also produces and cargo version of the aircraft - Avro RJ-85QT.

13 May 1992, the first flight of the Avro RJ-100 version, which is a modification of BAe.146-300, took place. This version is equipped with AlliedSignal LF 507-1F engines with a load, each in 31,1kn. Avro RJ-100 aircraft, has a length of 30,10 meters, and in the usual configuration designed to carry passengers 100, but with a tight layout of seats, in the cabin of this aircraft can accommodate up to 112 passenger seats. Avro RJ-100's flight range at maximum load is 2550 kilometers. In addition to the passenger version, the cargo version of the aircraft, designated Avro RJ100QT, was also produced. This aircraft is equipped with a cargo door.

Avro RJ-70, has been upgraded from an airplane BAe.146-100. The first flight Avro RJ-70, 24 held August 1993 years. The aircraft has 26,16 meters length and standard can accommodate up to 70 passenger seats. When economical interior layout, in Avro RJ-70 82 can accommodate up seats. The maximum range of this version is 2990 kilometers.

The last Avro RJ aircraft was delivered to the airline in 2002. After that, in 2003, production of the Regional Jet 70 / 85 / 100 aircraft was suspended. For all the time of its production, from 1993 to 2003 year, 166 units of these aircraft models were produced. Despite the fact that Avro RJ planes have been discontinued, they continue to be operated by air carriers and serve local and regional air directions.
