The White House refuses to recognize the Wagner PMC as a terrorist organization under the pretext that African states are cooperating with it.

The Hill writes about it.

The publication writes that Congress is pushing for such recognition, but an aide to the congressman anonymously told The Hill that the Biden administration opposes the law because of fears that it could interfere with US relations with African states.

Wagner is reportedly working with countries such as Sudan, Libya, the Central African Republic, Mozambique, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Chad, where private security firms are used to reinforce their weak military forces.

“The State Department is concerned that if Wagner were to become terrorists, then the governments of these countries would be sanctioned as collaborating with terrorists, their assets would be frozen and they would not be able to travel to the United States,” the aide said.
