The Bombardier CRJ-100 and CRJ-200 are the first as well as the basic models of the aircraft belonging to the Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet narrow-body jet airliners for regional and local airlines. These aircraft are designed by the Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier Inc. The CRJ-100 / 200 aircraft were built based on the Canadair CL-600 regional business jet (Bombardier Challenger 600). The main visual difference between the CRJ-100 / 200 and the administrative plane Challenger 600 is the fuselage elongated by 6,09 meters and a larger wing span.

Aircraft CRJ-100 / 200 have the form of a low-wing monoplane with swept-back shape. Aircraft engines located in the rear fuselage of circular cross section diameter 2,9 meters. The tail unit has a "T" -shaped.

Officially, the work on the project «Canadair Regional Jet» began in March 1989 year, although preliminary research company for the construction of jet passenger aircraft for local airlines started in the two years prior to the announcement of the official program - in 1987 year.

The first model was built designation CRJ-100. On it were mounted engines General Electric CF34-3A1 with each thrust of 38.84 kN. Salon aircraft allowed to host 50 seats.

The first flight took place on CRJ-100 10 May 1991 years. Upon completion of all the tests in July 1992, the aircraft received a Canadian certificate of fitness for flight. And in January of next year, CRJ-100, was certified by the American (FAR) and European (JAR) lёtnym standards.

A version was also released with an increased, to 3000 kilometers, flight range due to a larger fuel reserve. This version received the designation CRJ-100ER. In 1992, a version of CRJ-100LR was released, with a range of 3710 kilometers.

In 1995, Bombardier Inc. introduced an improved aircraft modification, the CRJ-200, with General Electric CF34-3B1 turbofan engines installed, each with 38.81 kN thrust. These engines have less fuel consumption, which has increased the range of the basic version to 2700 kilometers. Also, thanks to the new engines, the aircraft was able to operate in regions with hot climates and high altitude conditions. During the tests, the Bombardier CRJ-200 showed better flight performance than its predecessor, the CRJ-100. At the same time, the Bombardier CRJ-200 also had a passenger compartment for 50 seats.

The first production aircraft CRJ-200, were delivered in January 15 1996, the Austrian air carrier «Tyrolean Airways», based in the city of Innsbruck.

Almost immediately after the base model CRJ-200, versions CRJ-200ER and CRJ-200LR were released, with 3045 and 3713 kilometers, respectively.

With the advent of the new CRJ-700 and CRJ-900 aircraft, the production of the CRJ-100 and CRJ-200 versions was suspended. According to official data for August 2006, the CRJ-938 and CRJ-100 aircraft are in operation in 200.
