DH. 114 Heron («Heron") - screw passenger aircraft developed by a British aircraft manufacturer de Havilland in the early 50-ies. Despite the very advanced age of the model aircraft, aircraft continue to be actively used in some countries, in particular, these include Australia, Belgium, India, etc.

The developments of the British aircraft manufacturers were carried out on the basis of the already existing aircraft model DH. 104 DoveHowever, the exception was the increased capacity of the aircraft, improved propulsion system and shorter takeoff distance, making it suitable for use in remote parts of the world.

Initially, the plane DH. 114 Heron fully organized ridership lines small extent, but at present, these aircraft are used primarily for the transportation of passengers to larger airports. One feature of the DH. 114 Heron is its ease of use and reliability, however, the aircraft gradually replaced with newer and modern, providing efficient operation with less fuel consumption.

In addition to the civil aviation planes DH. 114 Heron actively used initially in military transport aircraft - a simple transformation of the cabin allowed to take on board more than 2 tons of payload. Nevertheless, the military operation of the aircraft ended in 80-90-ies of the last century.

His first flight of the plane DH. 114 Heron 10 May 1950 committed, and already a few months later, and the aircraft came to mass production, and are available where up to 1967 years. Total produced 150 aircraft units, and currently are used only a few dozen.

Airplanes DH. 114 Heron comes in two basic series - DH. 114 Heron Series 1 and DH. 114 Heron Series 2, moreover, the main difference between the second series is to improve the design of the chassis - at takeoff landing gear was hidden in the fuselage of the aircraft, thereby improving the aerodynamic properties of the aircraft and reduce fuel consumption.

In addition to the issued series aircraft DH. 114 Heron has repeatedly been subjected to various kinds of modifications, but in most cases this was due to military requirements for this aircraft, but in general, the design of the aircraft has not changed compared with the base model.

During the period of operation of DH. 114 Heron was officially revealed 9 accidents, which killed 99 people, including both passengers and crew of aircraft.
