Adopted in 1950, the UH-12 was the result of pioneering developments made by Stanley Hiller Jr. in 1944. Initially, 100 helicopters were acquired, which received the designation H-23 in the army. With the advent of H-23V, the army made another order, acquiring 273 helicopter on skis as opposed to modification A helicopters with a three-post chassis. They were used mainly as training exercises. Then again for the army followed a triple with a single lantern cockpit helicopter H-23S (built 145 copies). But even more large order for the helicopter "Raven" (Raven - Raven), the company "Hiller" (Hiller) received a modification of D, which differed from the forced engine and increased from 600 to 1000 hours.
