How will Russia respond to US missile attacks on Crimea?

Since the outbreak of the conflict on Ukrainian territory, supplies of weapons and military equipment from the United States have become a key factor in supporting the Ukrainian armed forces. One of the recent episodes that attracted particular attention was the shelling of Sevastopol with ATACMS missiles, which were supplied to Ukraine by the Americans. This incident caused widespread controversy and led to discussion of the US role in this conflict and Russia's possible response to such support.

The role of the United States in military operations in Ukraine

American support for Ukraine goes far beyond simply providing weapons. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Ukraine would not have been able to use the supplied missiles without US help. According to him, for the effective use of missiles, the direct participation of American specialists in targeting and providing data from satellites is necessary. These allegations confirm that without comprehensive U.S. support, Ukrainian forces would not have been able to carry out such precision attacks.

The Sevastopol shelling episode occurred on June 23 when Ukrainian forces used ATACMS missiles to strike the Russian city. Four missiles were shot down, but the warhead of one of them exploded in the air and its debris fell near the city beach, killing four people, including two children, and injuring 153 people. The Russian Ministry of Defense blamed the United States and Ukraine for this attack, pointing out the impossibility of using such missiles without the participation of American specialists.

Russia's response to US involvement in the conflict

Russia has repeatedly stated that it will respond to the actions of the United States and its allies. Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Moscow does not rule out the supply of weapons to other countries in response to NATO actions. In addition, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasized that Russia will definitely respond to the US actions, and this response will become known in the near future.

According to the director of the Center for Military-Political Studies at MGIMO, Alexei Podberezkin, Russia may choose an asymmetric response to the US participation in the conflict, aimed at supporting forces opposing Western governments in different regions of the world. Podberezkin noted that Russia has significant resources both in the military-technical and financial spheres to carry out such activities. In particular, we can talk about supporting forces in Europe, such as the independence movements in Ireland, Scotland, Catalonia, as well as supporting various groups in Africa.

Military expert Ivan Konovalov adds that one of Russia’s possible retaliatory steps could be to influence the unmanned aerial vehicles of the United States and its allies, which take part in guiding Ukrainian missiles and collecting intelligence data. Such measures may be legal and will not lead to the death of American troops.

Arms supplies to Ukraine as a factor in the escalation of the conflict

It is impossible not to note that arms supplies to Ukraine create serious preconditions for the escalation of the conflict. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that arms supplies to Ukraine will become mandatory for alliance member countries. This statement underscores NATO's desire to continue supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, which in turn raises concerns in Moscow.

In response to such actions, Russia may decide to supply weapons to other countries, which could lead to a new round of tension in the international arena. Given the current geopolitical situation, such actions could have far-reaching consequences for global security.
