The Neiva Regente was developed by Brazilian design engineers specifically for the Brazilian Air Force, and it was assumed that the aircraft would be used not only as a patrol aircraft, but also as an aircraft for training future military pilots. Despite this fact, some of the aircraft actively began to be operated by private owners, which was primarily due to the multi-purpose assignment of this aircraft, as well as the fact that the aircraft had a rather attractive cost and did not incur costs in its operation.

The first development aircraft Neiva Regente began in 1958 year, and already three years later, the first prototype of the aircraft could take to the air, however, in the mass production of the plane Neiva Regente entered only 1963 year, which was due to some financial problems for the organization release.

The cabin of the Neiva Regente aircraft, despite its large enough size, allows only two people to be accommodated on board - for military purposes it is usually about the instructor and cadet, and in civil aviation - the pilot and the passenger. Nevertheless, the presence of additional space in the cabin allows the aircraft to also carry and transport small loads, in which this aircraft also received use. Depending on the modification, on board the Neiva Regente aircraft can be placed up to 400 kilogram of payload (taking into account the pilot's own weight and one passenger (cadet)), with this aircraft can cover quite large distances - up to 920 kilometers (depending on Version).

The power plant of the Neiva Regente aircraft is represented by one Lycoming O-360-A1D four-cylinder piston aircraft engine, capable of developing a thrust of 180 hp, which in turn provides an acceptable flight speed of about 225 km / h. (depending on modification). In later versions of this aircraft, a more productive power plant is used, which allows developing thrust up to 210 hp, which in turn provides a flight speed of up to 250 km / h.

Among the modified versions of the aircraft should be made such as:

  • Neiva Regente 360C - Basic production version of the aircraft. It is used both in military and civil aviation;
  • Neiva Regente U-42 - A modified version, developed by request of the Brazilian Air Force;
  • Neiva Regente C-42 - An improved version of the aircraft with minor technical amendments;
  • Neiva Regente 420L  - A modified version of the power plant Continental IO-360D (210 hp);
  • Neiva Regente L-42 - The military version is created on the basis of Neiva Regente 420L;
  • Neiva Lanciero  - The civilian version of the aircraft.
