the USSR
A type: Single-engine jet fighter and a double jet training aircraft
CrewOne pilot / two pilots, arranged one behind the other
The first successful Soviet jet fighter MiG-15 virtually no ads appeared in 1950, in the skies over Korea and became an unpleasant surprise for the pilots of the United Nations. With its swept wings and the aerodynamic configuration of the MiG could easily bypass their American and British opponents climb, in a dive, and a maneuvering speed.
Only with the appearance in December 1958 of the F-86 "Saber" aircraft, the UN forces obtained a fighter that corresponded to the MiG-15 in almost everything. The "heart" of the agile fighter from the bureau headed by AI Mikoyan and MI Gurevich was the compact RD-45F engine of Klimov, the direct descendant of the Nin engine of Rolls-Royce. The copies of the Nin engine were bought in the USSR in 1947 by the then allied government of England; this seems to be the answer to the question of problems with power plants, which delayed the development of jet fighters in the USSR. In addition, Soviet designers were under the enormous influence of German data captured in 1945.
After flight testing at the beginning of the year 1947-15 MiG been put into production, and for five years in the USSR was built 8000 * aircraft. During 1950-ies in the operation received subsequent improvement modifications (including double training fighter UTI). Licensed production continued in Poland ** (fighter Lim-1 and two-seater SBLim-2) in the early 1960-ies.
* 10 MiG-633s of various modifications were built in the USSR alone. - Approx. ed.
** MiG-15 built in series and in Czechoslovakia.
