They practiced a nuclear strike on Russia: the United States secretly sent two B-52 bombers to the Russian borders
This afternoon, Russian MiG-29 and MiG-31 fighters took off to intercept American B-52H strategic bombers approaching the Russian border over the Barents Sea. The situation turned out to be very difficult, since a nuclear strike against Russian targets was being practiced.
Fighter interception
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, during regular monitoring of the airspace over the Barents Sea, a group air target was detected approaching the border of the Russian Federation. To identify and prevent border violations, duty MiG-29 and MiG-31 fighters were scrambled. The aircraft crews discovered a pair of American B-52H strategic bombers, which, approaching the border, made a turn and went to the northwestern regions of neutral airspace.
A statement from the Finnish Ministry of Defense clarifies that the American bombers took part in a training flight, heading from Norway to the south over Lapland. The flight also included two KC-135 and one KC-46 refueling aircraft, indicating the scale and preparedness of the operation.
Strategic importance of B-52N bombers
American B-52H strategic bombers are a key element of the US air force, capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons. In this case, the B-52Ns practiced a massive missile and air strike against strategically important facilities of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy and energy facilities of the Russian Federation using digital models of AGM-86B/D cruise missiles. These missiles have a high range of up to 2400 km, which allows them to hit targets at a considerable distance from the launch site.
AGM-86B ALCM (Air Launched Cruise Missile) cruise missiles are equipped with a GPS-corrected control system, which ensures high guidance accuracy. The circular probable deviation (CPD) for these missiles with a GPS module is only 5-10 meters, which makes them extremely dangerous when striking point targets. When equipped with a 150 kt nuclear warhead, such accuracy does not play a significant role, but for conventional warheads it is critically important.
Reaction of the Russian side
The departure of Russian fighters to intercept B-52N bombers was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters. The Russian Ministry of Defense emphasized that the actions of the MiG-29 and MiG-31 crews were aimed solely at preventing violations of the state border.
The return of fighters to their home airfield without incident speaks of the professionalism of Russian pilots and the coordination of their actions with ground services. It also demonstrates the readiness of the Russian air defense system to quickly respond to potential threats.
