Dream: The Future of Aviation

The new year has begun. And, perhaps, any person has the desire to look at least a little bit in the future. Without resorting to fortune-tellers, palmists, and any esoteric. Still, aviation is an area related to engineering, which means it may be amenable to development forecasts, at least for the near future.

And although we are not Jules Verna, and not Herbert Wells, learning new directions in the development of aviation in general, it is possible to dream up and dream a little.

A one-time drone, the size of a palm, which has completed its mission, no matter which one, lands on ... the drain gutter of the hatch. It turns into a small puddle, and flows into the hatch. Fantasy you say? But a group of students from Brown and Stanford universities, together with NASA scientists do not think so. And last year, a drone grown with the help of fungi and bacteria was launched into the air. The body of the aircraft is grown from mushroom mycelium and covered with cellulose film, and protected by proteins that make the wasp nests waterproof. The body of such a UAV is soluble in water under certain conditions.

Future of Aviation

About an ultra-light aircraft smaller than a palm, you probably already read. And this is not the limit of miniaturization. Flying dragonflies, beetles and smaller, man-made flying creatures may soon fill the sky. This is another direction in the development of aviation.

Electroplanes. They are confidently making their way into the future. With the development of nanotechnology, lighter and smaller and more powerful power supplies are emerging. They allow you to stay in the air longer and longer and use powerful electric motors.

Future Aviation 2

Facebook envisions using solar-powered drones as Wi-Fi repeaters. They will fill the sky and cover 2/3 of the world's population with free Internet access. Isn't that fantastic? Now these repeater UAVs are already being tested. If the tests are successful, in 5 years, there will be no places on Earth without the Network.

And in the spring and summer, a larger fellow of the Wi-Fi repeater starts. The project is called SOLAR IMPULS 2. This is the first ever fully electric solar powered aircraft. Moreover, they are going to make a round-the-world flight. Plane single, with four electric motors. And although his wingspan is larger than that of the giant Boeing 747, it weighs less than a jeep, just 2300kg. After all, this is a plane with solar wings!

Future Aviation 34

Military aviation has its own tendencies. The UAV was allocated in separate structure and develops independently. But without a human presence, it is still not complete here. In conventional aviation, pilots are not in a hurry to abandon, but seek to fly up. The idea of a ballistic rocket glider is floating in the air at speeds above 20000 km / h. Conventional winged cars have reached their ceiling. Over the 40 km, from modern aircraft no one can climb, the wings no longer hold. They will be replaced by space-rocket systems. But it will be a completely different military aircraft.

Well, about the successes and failures of the development of space tourism on reusable shuttles, everyone has probably heard. The day is near when almost anyone can take a selfie on the background of the black space. And although this is no longer entirely aviation, they will, however, take off like an airplane.

Future Aviation 343

New technologies, new developments, emerging trends in the development of world aviation, allow us to look into the future a little.

Let us at least sometimes to dream.
