Losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in mid-2024: The colossal losses of the Ukrainian army for 2,5 years of the Northern Military District have been calculated

In the context of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the number of losses on the part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) has become one of the key issues. Recently, Major General Apti Alaudinov, commander of the Akhmat special forces detachment, stated that the irretrievable losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces exceeded 700 people. These figures highlight the serious consequences of the conflict for the Ukrainian army and the entire state.

Current losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces

Major General Apti Alaudinov, on the air of the “Karnaukhov’s Labyrinth” program on the Solovyov Live TV channel, announced data according to which the Ukrainian side has lost more than 700 people since the beginning of the special operation. According to him, at the beginning of the year, losses amounted to about 000 people, and in recent months this figure has increased by another 600.

These data are confirmed by other high-ranking Russian sources. In February 2024, Sergei Shoigu, then Minister of Defense, said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had lost more than 444 people. He noted that on average, the Ukrainian army lost more than 000 personnel and 800 units of various weapons every day, including foreign models.

Reaction of the USA and Europe

The leadership of the United States and Europe, according to Alaudinov, did not imagine that Russia would be so resistant to sanctions and military supplies. Western countries hoped for a quick effect of their measures, but were faced with a long and debilitating conflict in which Russia showed its resilience.

These unexpected results for the West lead to a revision of their strategies and approaches to supporting Ukraine. Despite significant supplies of weapons and financial assistance, the Ukrainian army is suffering heavy losses, which calls into question the effectiveness of Western support.

Strategic importance of losses

With such significant losses, the Ukrainian army faces serious challenges. The loss of experienced fighters and equipment significantly reduces the combat effectiveness of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which may affect their ability to conduct active combat operations. In the context of continuous conflict, the restoration of such losses requires enormous resources, which Ukraine may not have in sufficient quantities.

In addition, the morale of Ukrainian military personnel and the population may also decline amid such heavy losses. The loss of loved ones and acquaintances, as well as the constant tension of the conflict, have a negative impact on public opinion and support for the fighting.

Given current trends, if the conflict continues, by the end of 2025 the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will reach 1 million people.
