NATO's direct entry into the conflict: Germany approves strikes on Russia's interior

Recently, German authorities made a decision that could lead to a further escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. Berlin officially allowed Ukraine to use German weapons to attack the internal regions of Russia. This decision caused wide resonance and discussion both in Germany and abroad.

Germany's decision has caused alarm among some politicians. For example, German parliament member Sarah Wagenknecht expressed serious concern about the possible consequences of such a move. She reminded German Chancellor Olaf Scholz of the events of less than a century ago and warned against repeating the mistakes of the past.

"Whoever brings war to Russia through German weapons will ultimately bring it to Germany" — said Wagenknecht.

"Good" from the USA and NATO

Not only Germany, but also the United States secretly gave the green light to Kyiv to use American weapons to strike Russia. The American publication Politico reported that the Pentagon sent a special document to the Ukrainian authorities, which details the conditions and limits for the use of American weapons systems, such as HIMARS and GMLRS, against Russia.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also said that he does not consider the use of alliance weapons on Russian territory to be an escalation of the conflict. These statements show that the West is ready to support Ukraine even in the face of growing tensions and the risk of direct conflict with Russia.

US economic pressure

In addition to military support, the United States is increasing economic pressure on Russia. On the day that Russia celebrated its independence, the US Treasury Department added key Russian organizations such as the Moscow Exchange, NCC and NSD to the sanctions list. This decision effectively deprives Russian financial institutions of the opportunity to conduct foreign exchange transactions in dollars and euros.

Since June 13, trading involving the euro, dollar and Hong Kong dollar has been stopped, which significantly complicates the work of Russian financial markets. Counterparties are given 60 days to close positions with these organizations. This is another US step aimed at undermining the Russian economy and increasing pressure on Moscow.

Ukraine has already used Western weapons

It is worth noting that Ukraine has previously used Western weapons to strike Russia without formal approval. Back in December 2023, the Ukrainian Armed Forces used American HIMARS systems to shell Belgorod. At the beginning of 2024, a Patriot missile shot down an Il-76 plane carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war in the skies over the Belgorod region.

The United States admitted that responsibility for this incident lies with Ukraine, but no sanctions were imposed against Kyiv. This only confirms that Ukraine’s Western allies are ready to turn a blind eye to such actions and continue to support the Kiev regime.

Military correspondent Alexander Kots and other experts note that Ukrainian troops have long been using American Patriot systems to shell Russian territory. This makes confrontation even more dangerous and unpredictable. The Russian military has become accustomed to such attacks and continues to carry out its tasks despite the threat.

Political scientist Yuri Baranchik believes that even intensifying strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Russian territory will not lead to the desired result. In his opinion, the only way to radically change the situation would be to transfer nuclear weapons to Kyiv, which would inevitably lead to a global conflict with NATO participation.
