Radar station P-15 of decimeter range is used to detect low-flying targets. It entered service in the 1955 year and is used in the composition of the radar posts of radio engineering formations, batteries of control of the missile and anti-aircraft artillery formations of the operational air defense level and at the air defense command posts of the tactical level.

The station has 3 mode of operation:

  • coherent pulsed;
  • amplitude with accumulation;
  • amplitude.

The P-15 station has protection against passive interference by compensating for local objects and dipole interference, and for targeting in frequency, active interference by quickly tuning to one of the 4 frequencies.

Tests of the P-15 MN radar were conducted in the 1970 year. On it additionally brought the equipment of the ground radar interrogator and flicker equipment. Initially 70-x. Radar P-15MN substantially transferred to the new component base and equipped with a new SRH. After such a modernization, the station received the designation P-19 (1RLX134) and was put into service in the 1974 year.

The objective of the P-19 radar is to conduct reconnaissance of air targets at medium and low altitudes, detect targets, calculate their current coordinates by identification range and azimuth and transmit radar data to the mating systems and command posts. It is a mobile two-coordinate radar station located on two vehicles.

The first machine is equipped with anti-interference equipment, receiving and transmitting equipment, indicating equipment, equipment for ground-based radar interrogator, equipment for data transmission, communication, simulation and interfacing with users of functional control and radar information.

On the second machine are the power supply units and the antenna-turning device radar.

The duration of operation and the difficult climatic conditions of the P-15 / P-19 radar stations have led to the fact that today most radars need to restore the resource.

The only effective way out of the situation is the modernization of the old radar fleet based on the "Caste-2Е1" radar.

What was included in the proposal for modernization:

  • preservation of the inviolability of the main radar systems (antenna rotational drive, antenna system, power supply system, microwave path, vehicles);
  • the possibility of upgrading under operating conditions with low financial costs;
  • the possibility of operating the released P-19 radar equipment in order to restore products that have not been upgraded.

After modernization, the mobile solid-state low-altitude station P-19 was able to perform air control tasks, determine the azimuth and range of air objects — remotely piloted aircraft, helicopters, airplanes, cruise missiles, including those operating at low / extremely low altitudes, against the background of intense reflections from underlying surface, hydro meteorological formations and local objects.

Radar adapts quickly to use in various civil and military systems. It can be used for information support of air force, air defense systems, coastal defense systems, civil aircraft control systems and rapid reaction forces. In addition to traditional use as a means of detecting low-flying targets, the upgraded station can be used to control the airspace to cross the movement of drugs and weapons with low-speed, low-altitude and small-sized aircraft aerial objects in the interests of police units and special services specializing in combating arms smuggling and drug trafficking.
