Aircraft La-5 and La-7 were among the best planes of World War II. The first La-5 aircraft were designed entirely from wood, as at the beginning of the war there was a shortage of light alloys based on aluminum in the country.  But 1943 was an opportunity to produce a set of power wing aircraft La-5 of aluminum and steel. These materials provide a possibility to increase the internal volume of the wing, but at the same time reduce the weight of the structure. To reduce drag made closing flap main landing gear, and a back support made clean.

The oil cooler was moved closer to the tail section, change the location of the air intake blower motor. Self assembly of the fuselage separated from the firewall. Head-glazed lantern made flat, installed armored glass thickness 55 mm and the thickness of the head pilot 66 mm. To reduce the risk of ignition of fuel tanks in the battle, they were filled with an inert gas (recruited from the left exhaust manifold).

Engine La-5 - 14-cylinder, air-cooled, star-shaped M - 82 (a bit later, ASH - 82). Engine capacity 41,20 l.
The radio equipment consisted of one receiving-transmitting radio station RSI-4. Armed with La-5 was two ShVAK automatic cannons. They were in the nose of the fuselage. The rate of guns -800 shots per minute.

La-7, compared to La-5, was more perfect. His flight data improved not due to engine power, but due to aerodynamic qualities. They began to enter the Air Force combat units in 1944, in connection with the rearmament of the fighter aircraft.

Most of the aircraft in this series have been the top two tone camouflage gray paint (by the way, this was the basis for the color scheme of color planes of NATO), and the bottom has been painted in a light - blue. Five-pointed red stars (1943 year with white border) were applied to the board, the lower surface of the wing and vertical tail.
