German was born in Valuiki (Belgorod region) on March 16.03.1923, 1940. He graduated from school in 25.06.1941. The next year he graduated from the Belgorod flying club. Drafted into the army on XNUMX/XNUMX/XNUMX. studied at the Chuguevka military pilot school.

Since early January, the 1945 Shatalov participated in the blockade of the German Kurland grouping fly on Yak-9.

Since the beginning of 1948 - 50-pilot of a separate regiment, in September of the same year - 415-pilot of the first regiment of the Belarusian Air Force District. With 1948 city - pilot 523-th Regiment, 303-s Air Division. Since the end of 1950 was at the disposal of the commander of the Second Army 64-air defense.

In the spring of 1951 Hermann, being a senior lieutenant, he participated in the Korean conflict. During his practice in fighting this war was able to shoot down American fighters 5 (officially).

28.11.1951 died heroically in an air battle over Korea. The aircraft was damaged, Herman managed to eject, but faced with the plane and died. Who he was shot down Shatalov not known for certain. There is speculation that he was hit by an American lieutenant Dayton Regland. According to him, he shot down the plane that day. But he himself was shot down in the battle to eject, he was captured.
