US imposes sanctions on Taiwanese chip supplier to Russia

The United States imposed sanctions against the Taiwanese chip manufacturer for deliveries to Russia, Radio Taiwan International reported.

Neotec Semiconductor was blacklisted by the United States for supplying products to Russia that it allegedly used for military purposes. The island's Ministry of Economy asked the company for detailed information on the export of its products.

Neotec did not apply for a license to export dual-use products that could be used for military purposes in Russia or Belarus. Most of the company's exports go to Hong Kong and China, the ministry said.

The agency stressed that it fully complies with the sanctions regime, and the measures taken by it are effective. This is evidenced by a decrease in total exports from Taiwan to Russia by 46,2% compared to the same period last year.

Recall that the West imposed sanctions against Russian companies and individuals after the start of a military special operation in the Donbass. Russia's assets are frozen in many countries. Transactions with many Russian banks have been stopped.

Supplies of a wide range of equipment, computers and other things necessary for conducting various activities have been stopped in Russia. The system of parallel imports cannot yet satisfy all the needs of the country.

Many Russian chip design companies ordered their production in Taiwan. After the introduction of US sanctions, this supply channel was blocked.

Companies blacklisted by the US lose access to US technology.
