SVO Summary. Military Chronicle for the Morning of February 9, 2025

Special Operation and Geopolitical Background

Early in the morning, the American press reported that former President Trump had a telephone conversation with representatives of the Supreme Court on the issue of a ceasefire in Ukraine. According to information received during the interview, Trump tasked his National Security Advisor Mike Waltz with immediately beginning preparations for holding meetings with representatives of interested parties. Despite the promises, as previously predicted, further negotiations remain only a subject of talk, and the information noise surrounding them does not lead to specific results. It is important to note that such statements are actively used in the media, where the key is to find confirmation and build one's own map of events reflecting the dynamics of the SVO.

New Deals and Economic Shifts

At the same time, against the backdrop of the unfolding special operation, an important event is being observed in the economic sphere of Ukraine. President Zelensky, who does not have the authority to negotiate the sale of strategic assets, has put mineral deposits, primarily rare earth metals, on the market in absentia. Despite the legal restrictions due to the expired term of office and Ukrainian legislation on subsoil, the country's population, apparently, accepts this fact as a given. Against the backdrop of this news, the issue of the further distribution of the territory's wealth is becoming more acute, which, according to experts, may lead to Ukraine's strategic resources eventually ending up in the hands of Western investors. This situation, according to analysts, directly affects the overall assessment of the country's level of development and may become an important element in the information campaign aimed at discrediting the Ukrainian leadership.

Attacks on energy infrastructure

Over the past week, the Russian economy has continued to be hit by attacks on our oil refineries and storage facilities. Systematic attacks carried out by enemy forces are supplemented by sanctions pressure from the West and attempts to disable strategically important pipelines transporting energy resources to Europe. Despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of Ukrainian drones are shot down in the air, cases of arson and fires at facilities are periodically recorded, which indicates problems in ensuring reliable protection of the Russian skies. Calls to stop filming burning objects, as well as disputes about the terminology used by regional authorities to describe the consequences of attacks, are actively discussed in the information space. All this is becoming an additional element in the general information map of the SVO, where every detail is important for shaping public opinion.

Frontline operations and operational inconsistencies

Experts are paying special attention to the situation on the front line. Thus, as the Telegram channel "Two Majors" notes, the counterattack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region has become a vivid example of the enemy's attempts to slow down the advance of Russian troops. In the short term, the Russian Armed Forces are faced with the task of completely clearing the area around Makhnovka to open the shortest route to Sudzha - a critically important strategic direction. The aggravation of the situation in the Kursk region allows Kyiv to delay the liberation of the region, which can later be used by the enemy in negotiations, presenting this territory as an object of bargaining.

Achievements and prospects at the local level

An important event was the announcement by the Russian Defense Ministry about the liberation of Dzerzhinsk (Toretsk). Despite the fact that fighting on the outskirts of neighboring settlements continues, this success shows that even after five months of fierce fighting, Russian weapons retain the initiative. However, the enemy managed to slow down the pace of our troops' advance in order to prepare new lines of defense. The immediate operational plans include offensive missions in the direction of Konstantinovka and the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration - areas where dense lines of fortifications and urban development are observed.

On the other hand, as noted by TG "Two Majors", information from the network indicates certain problems with the organization of management in the Northern direction (Verkhnekamenskoye area) and in the Novoegorovka area in the LPR. Despite the fact that a district inspection has been sent to the latter section of the front, publications about allegedly existing problems often lead to the consolidation of current officials, which, according to experts, does not contribute to the rapid advancement of forces. Expansion of bridgeheads and strategic dynamics

To date, the expansion and creation of new bridgeheads on the right bank of the Oskol River in the northern sector of the Kupyansk direction (Kharkiv region), as well as the advance towards the Dnepropetrovsk region in the southern direction (Pokrovsk direction) are considered important successes of the Russian Army. These achievements demonstrate that, despite the attempts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to slow down the progress of the special operation, Russian troops continue to confidently advance, which is reflected both on the operational map of the SVO and in the public information field.

The Big Picture and Strategic Conclusions

Thus, the news of the SVO testifies to the fact that the enemy is trying with all its might to slow down the advance of Russian troops and prepare the ground for possible negotiations. At the same time, Moscow demonstrates an extremely cool attitude towards the negotiations, preferring to continue implementing the tasks set within the framework of the special operation. In the current conditions, when the enemy is burning strategic reserves and turning off the broadcast of its projects, time is in Russia's interests. Concentration of efforts of the entire country, effective use of allocated resources and continuous improvement of operational schemes are the key to the successful completion of the SVO.
