Fuel tanks helicopters

All tanks must withstand vibration, inertial forces, the impact of the fluid, structural and thermal loads, which may be subject to conditions. Each tank is recommended to have a free volume of at least 25% of the total capacity of the tank for fuel expansion when heated. The system must be provided draining sediment from the bottom of the tank or sump outlets.

Fuel tank and the elements of his installations are designed in such a way as to prevent fuel leakage under an emergency landing. Fuel tank caisson must provide the means for inspection and repair of its interior.

The tank is fixed so as to act on, the load has not concentrated on loose surfaces. Tanks with soft bodies shall be fixed so as to avoid the need for the perception of the weight of the fuel load. The inner surface of the tank compartment is smooth, without any protrusions that could lead to abrasion, if not provided housing protections in these areas. Each tank must have at the top of the free volume drainage, acting under all normal operating conditions.

All intakes fuel from the tank or booster pumps supplied with fuel filters. Each filling device located below the fuel level in the tank should have any means to prevent leakage of a dangerous amount of fuel from the tank in the event of a malfunction of the fuel inlet valve.

The design of the fuselage at the location of the fuel tanks below the floor of the passenger cabin is designed so as to withstand the breaking load and protect the fuel tanks from destruction.

Piping system elements and their compounds should withstand vibrations within the assigned resource, inertial forces, structural and thermal loads, the load generated in the system from the fuel pressure. Pipelines should not have loops or "ducks", which can accumulate air and sucks in quantities that can cause malfunction of the fuel system. Lots of pipelines passing through different parts of the helicopter, which can be subjected to relative movement, must have elements that compensate for the strain.
