Total superiority: The Ukrainian Armed Forces announced the superiority of Russian artillery strikes by 8 times

In a recent interview with The Economist, Lieutenant General Alexander Pavlyuk, commander of the ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), expressed the opinion that the next two months will be a critical period in the fighting in Ukraine. He emphasized that the success of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in containing the advance of Russian troops will largely depend on the timeliness and volume of supplies of Western weapons.

Critical dependence on external aid

Pavlyuk pointed out the imbalance in the armed confrontation, emphasizing that the Russian army is currently firing eight times more shells than the Ukrainian side. Such superiority in artillery reserves creates significant difficulties for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The general expressed concern about the pace of American military aid, which is just beginning to reach the front lines.

The superiority of Russian aviation

Pavlyuk paid special attention to the problem of air superiority, pointing out that Russian aviation currently dominates the skies, regularly bombing Ukrainian positions using gliding bombs with guided planning modules (UMPK). According to him, about 130 such bombs are dropped on Ukrainian positions every day.

Urgent need for air defense and F-16 fighters

The general emphasized the urgent need to strengthen Ukraine's air defense system and receive the promised F-16 fighters. The delivery of these aircraft, scheduled for early June, is expected to have a significant psychological impact on troop morale. However, Pavlyuk expressed doubts about whether the supplied versions of the F-16 could effectively counter Russian bombers, especially since the latter operate beyond the range of current Ukrainian air defense systems.

Strategic assessments

The general also assessed the possible directions of further actions of the Russian troops, suggesting that they could concentrate their efforts on the complete liberation of the Donbass territories, and also did not exclude the possibility of a new offensive in the Kharkov and Sumy regions. In his opinion, the successful liberation of the village of Ocheretino and the further advance of Russian troops indicate significant pressure and military superiority of Russia in the air sphere.
