Mi-2

In the second half of the 50-ies, there was a problem of replacing the Mi-1 helicopter with a newer and more progressive model, which became the Mi-2 helicopter. In the plans of the designers, it was first just a revision of the old model, but for a variety of reasons, Mile's design office decided to develop a completely new machine, which was designed on the basis of Mi-1. The most progressive solution of the designers was the use of two gas turbine engines in the new machine, something that had never been done before. This design of the power plant has made it possible to produce safer flights, since if one of the engines fails, it is possible to continue the flight on one operational one. All these innovations entered a new design project called Mi-2.

History of the Mi-2

The Mil Design Bureau has started designing a new unit at the beginning of the 1960 year. The main designer of this helicopter was appointed SP. Izotov. The decision to design such a model of a helicopter was truly a breakthrough in the helicopter industry. The use of two engines for the power plant of the helicopter remains relevant today. Especially since the helicopter body itself remained light enough and compact, this led to an increase in the speed of the flight and increased the carrying capacity of the car. The first two prototypes of this machine took off in the autumn of 1961. The serial production of Mi-2 began with 65 at the Polish helicopter plant Swidnik.

Because the USSR transferred production helicopter Poland and helped to establish serial production of the Mi-2, OKB employees were awarded state awards in Poland and the chief designers of the helicopter ML Miles and NS Otdelentsev were awarded the Commander's Cross. Serial production of the Mi-2 1992 was completed in the year. Total production of this model was issued more than 5,5 thousand cars.

The first Mi-2 was presented to the public in 1967 year at Le Bourget Air Show to. At the same time the helicopter received the international code name "Hoplayt", which gave the NATO Committee. Polish manufacturers also gave the name of this machine, "Marabou", but it did not stick.

Mi-2 1965 from a year started to export across the border, but the bulk of the helicopters purchased USSR. This helicopter is also supplied to neighboring countries, on other continents such as Africa and South America.

Design features of the Mi-2

The fuselage of the Mi-2 presented an all-metal construction. The superstructure, which acted on the fuselage of the machine, was placed powerplant, which is represented by two turbine engines GTD model-350. Over powerplant propeller placed radiator and cooling. The cockpit and passenger seats fit in the bow of the body, where it was all the equipment and batteries.

The middle part of the Mi-2 provided cargo-passenger cabin, which has one door. In the middle of the cabin could accommodate couches for passengers or extra fuel tanks. The main tank can accommodate 600 liters of fuel. When the passenger version of the cabin could accommodate 8 people. Furthermore, additional tanks can be suspended on the outside of the housing of the helicopter sides. Also present are two oil tanks, which include 12 liters of oil.

The helicopter has an external suspension, to which you can attach loads of up to 800 kg. This model helicopter is equipped with a winch, which can be used to lift loads or to carry out rescue operations. At the end of the tail boom located stabilizer that operates automatically depending on the pitch of the blades of the main rotor.

Chassis Mi-2 consists of two main pillars of the pyramidal type and a front makeweight used lever type. Racks equipped with pneumatic shock absorbers. In winter, was the possibility of replacing the wheels on the skis.

Helicopter rotor comprises three blades which are rectangular in shape, and the rear pusher propeller has only two lobes. Management of the main rotor pitch by a special system of steering, but the failure of hydraulic pilot could resort to manual control.

Helicopter can be controlled both alone and two pilots, in the latest version of the control system are doubled.

There are helicopters Mi-2 for more specific tasks, in this case, they are equipped with additional devices. For example, machines for agricultural work, you can install a system of nozzles that can process chemicals field. In this case, put the additional tanks for the solution and the rod on which the nozzles for watering.

For helicopters, which are used as rescue vehicles, mounted winch to rescue the victims. It is capable of lifting loads of up to 120 kg. Mi-2 often used for environmental monitoring, for this purpose it is provided with additional special equipment. With regard to military helicopter model, then there should be noted that the Mi-2 can be equipped with a variety of weapons, depending on its task.

All equipment of the Mi-2 helicopter is powered by electricity from a generator generating a voltage of 27 volts, which is connected to the engine gearbox. In addition to the generator, there are two batteries that power the helicopter with current. The greatest amount of electricity is required by a system that prevents icing of the vehicle fuselage.

At one time, this machine was equipped with fairly advanced equipment, namely it was a radio compass, altimeter and gyrocompass. Military models are also equipped with a radar receiver.

Operation of helicopter Mi-2

To date, the helicopter is used by more than two dozen countries in all corners of the world. This model helicopter showed himself as a great military operations and civilian purposes. He was just an indispensable assistant. This machine is widely used by the airline "Aeroflot", it even had its own specific coloring. Helicopters, who worked in the polar latitudes, were painted in brighter colors. This was done in order to make them more visible on the background of snow and ice.

Mi-2 often used for the treatment of agricultural land. Helicopters have also been developed which are used to control the border areas. They were equipped with a loudspeaker. They are often used in the raids polar icebreakers for the exploration of the situation and calculate the optimum path of the ship.

With 1978, the model helicopter Mi-2 began to take part in international championships in the helicopter sport. Last time he was involved in 2005 in France.

Today the Russian Federation is used by more than 120 units of Mi-2, and another three hundred in operation in other countries of the former Soviet Union. But even beyond the borders of our country, these machines continue to bear his service. All this is only possible due to the fact that the Mi-2 has a sufficiently large lines of operation.

There are many museum exhibits, which are located in Moscow, Kiev, and even in Ulyanovsk Cottbus. In our country, even built monuments to legendary helicopter Mi-2.

At the end of the 50s. of the last century, for the needs of the Air Force and Civil Air Fleet, a helicopter was required that could replace the outdated Mi-1. Designers OKB-329 (Mil ML) developed a project for a new Mi-2 helicopter by 1960. In September 1961, two variants of the machine, passenger and agricultural, made their maiden flight. The Mi-2 became the first Soviet light helicopter to be equipped with a gas turbine engine. 1963 marked the beginning of its serial production, which lasted until 1992 (5250 vehicles). In addition to the USSR, the helicopter was also produced in Poland. In addition, he was exported in large quantities to the allied countries.

The Mi-2 was an excellent helicopter for its time. It embodied a number of progressive ideas in helicopter construction. For example, the Mi-2 had two gas turbine engines, which gave it an undoubted superiority over its single-engine foreign counterparts. First of all, this concerns speed and carrying capacity. At international helicopter competitions in 1963 and 1965. it set two speed records (253,818 and 269,38 km / h).

By its design, the Mi-2 is a helicopter with a classic single-screw scheme and a steering screw. The fuselage is an all-metal semi-monocoque consisting of a cockpit, a passenger cabin and a tail boom. The helicopter is equipped with a three-axle non-retractable landing gear. The power plant is located in a streamlined superstructure above the fuselage and consists of two GTE-350 engines (according to 298 kW). The carrier system of the helicopter consists of a three-blade main rotor and a two-bladed steering propeller. The fuel system is the main tank (600 L) located under the floor of the cabin and a pair of suspended tanks (238 l) from the outside of the fuselage.

Double crew cabin. Pilot seat is on the left. In a training version of Mi-2 set paired control, and the place of the cadet on the right. The passenger cabin is designed for eight passengers. If necessary, the seat can be dismantled to make room for cargo. The cabin is equipped with a medical form attachments for four people on a stretcher.

On the basis of Mi-2 there are many versions for different purposes. Agricultural option is equipped with two bars on the sides of the fuselage, to which were attached containers with chemicals. Search and rescue Mi-2R electric winch with a capacity of up to 120 kg. For Mi-2 found a place in the military aviation: it can be used for reconnaissance and fire support helicopter. It is possible to install automatic cannon and machine guns, and anti-tank or pylons to Nursi.

Today Mi-2 widely distributed and used as the former Soviet Union and in other countries. However, the helicopter is outdated and requires profound modernization. JSC "Moscow Helicopter Plant. Mil "and" Rostvertol "are working on a project to create a Mi-2A who plan to equip the engines Turbomeca Arrius 2Mi.

Mi2 (NATO code: Hoplite - "Hoplite") - a multipurpose Soviet helicopter, designed by the Mil M.L. in the early 1960s. In 1965, serial production was launched in Poland. It is widely used for many military and civilian purposes. Before production ended in 1992, over 5400 units were built. Even Mi2 takes part in tenders, competing with successors Ka226 and "ANSAT»

And why is the crew of one person? For example, for flights on instruments, the presence of a co-pilot and artificial horizon is mandatory.

In the USSR, there was a project to create a machine on the basis of MI2 similar to the American HUI. It is a pity that there is no information in the text.

A helicopter of this type does not require relatively large technical requirements. characteristics. Perhaps the Mi-2 is outdated, but still copes with civilian flights. Manufacturing some parts of the fuselage from new materials, installing new equipment and replacing the engine will make this helicopter meet all standards. (GOST or, that in aviation.)
