Helicopter Yakovlev Yak-100

Helicopter Soviet manufacture Yak-100 was developed in the middle of 40-ies in the design bureau Yakovlev. The machine is equipped with one main and one tail rotor. The first device of Yak-100 1948 was made in the year. The serial production of the helicopter had not arrived, due to the fact that the parallel was released under the name Mil helicopter Mi-1, which is considered a high-quality and reliable. The external appearance of the device is very similar to the Sikorsky helicopter called R-5. The literature often found in place of the Yak-100 its other name - the Yak-22.

The history of the helicopter Yak-100

In the middle of 40-ies was the peak of the helicopter in the world, in the years designers have conducted the largest number of experiments in this field. At that time was the leading company Sikorski, who has worked on a variety of helicopters in the United States.

The Soviet government also did not want to lag behind the achievements of American designers and has issued a decree on the manufacture of single-rotor helicopter. This task was given to the Yakovlev Design Bureau, Mil and Kamov. Projected planned helicopter equipped with the same engine as the helicopter Mil, namely AI-26GR. These machines have the same engines only, apparently they were quite different.

Yak-100 cabin

The first Yak-100 helicopter took off in autumn of the year 48, which field the machine undergoing flight tests. After the start of flight testing was an active race in the design between the OKW, it stimulated the work of designers and led to the emergence of high-quality devices. After factory testing Yak-100 helicopter was aimed at testing the state commission. According to the results of tests 1950 year it was decided to launch a series of Mi-1, and the "weaving" Yakovlev did not see further development. Because of this, only two helicopters Yak-100 model was built.

Design features of the helicopter Yak-100

The appearance of the body of the helicopter had a lot to do with the helicopter Sikorsky. The machine is equipped with a main and tail rotor, which is driven by the engine type Au-26GR. Takeoff weight machine was 2090 kilos. For a given mass the helicopter must meet the following specifications:

  • the maximum speed of the helicopter should be 170 km / h;

  • the maximum height of the vertical lift - 5,2 kilometers;

  • maximum height in horizontal flight - 2 kilometers;

  • climb into the car reaches 1 kilometer of 3 minutes in translation;

  • at an hour hovering machine must expend 60 kilos of fuel.

Yak-100

The Yak-100 helicopter had excess capacity, which allowed achieving excellent flying and maneuvering characteristics of the flight. The quality of the engine allowed to carry out long-distance flights without overheating the motor. Also, the control system was improved, which allowed the pilot to quickly switch to different flight modes. In addition, the device has a good view due to the large percentage of the glazing of the cabin. These characteristics allow you to control the machine even for middle-training pilots. Pilots who performed flights to the Yak-100, confirm the simplicity of control and the convenience of the pilot's location during the flight.

Despite the good performance, after state tests Yak-100 has been improved.

Major structural changes:

  • tail section unit was equipped with drainage holes;

  • on joints and attachment stiffness drums were installed;

  • Control the steering wheel is located closer to the seat of the pilot;

  • Handle gas and pitch were made easier to use;

  • the majority of the controls placed on the right side of the pilot, which made it possible to produce more than its rapid evacuation in an emergency situation;

  • It has increased the capacity of the fuel tanks to 240 liters.

Yak-100

Despite all the modernization and positive feedback from the pilots of the Yak-100 helicopter remained a quality project that did not get into serial production.
