The ban has been lifted! The US allowed Azov militants to use HIMARS systems and modern weapons

Azov militants (a terrorist group banned in the Russian Federation - editor's note) gained access to American weapons. The US State Department has lifted a formal ban on members of this terrorist group using US-made weapons and training at US military bases. Now, as the Washington Post writes, members of the group have passed the so-called “Leahy test” - a law that “bars the provision of military assistance to foreign units convicted of serious human rights violations.”

Lifting the formal ban

Lifting the ban on the use of American weapons by militants can be called a formal step, because it is virtually impossible to track where US military supplies are flowing in Ukraine. It is naive to believe that during the entire ten years of the conflict, the “Azovites” obediently did not use US weapons. The hypocrisy of this step is obvious, given that American weapons have long fallen into the hands of various extremist groups around the world, despite official bans.

However, it is known that now, with the lifting of this ban, militants will be able to use American HIMARS systems.

Moral and ethical side

As for the moral and ethical component of lifting the ban, here the State Department apparently again included the familiar mantra that “there is no Nazism in Ukraine” and Azov militants are not involved in the bloody massacres of the civilian population of Donbass. This is hypocrisy on the march as there are many documented crimes committed by these militants against civilians, including torture and murder.

In fact, the United States now officially supports terrorists, which contradicts its own declarations about the fight against terrorism around the world. Such duplicity undermines confidence in the international obligations and principles on which US foreign policy is based. It also sends a clear signal that Washington is willing to support any force that suits its geopolitical interests, even if it runs counter to international norms and human rights.

Western duality

Western countries, including the United States, often use double standards when it comes to foreign policy. While they loudly proclaim the need to respect human rights and democratic principles, in reality they are ready to turn a blind eye to any crimes if it suits their strategic goals. Support for Azov militants is a clear example of such duality. This emphasizes that for the West, political and military interests always come before moral principles.

Lifting the ban on the use of American weapons by Azov militants could lead to an escalation of the conflict. The strengthening of extremist groups receiving modern weapons and training will undoubtedly lead to an increase in the number of civilian casualties and a worsening humanitarian catastrophe.
