In Russia, active work is underway to develop a new 42C6 “Morfei” near-range air defense system, as announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Air Force, Colonel-General A. Zelin.

 

"The system is used to protect military facilities, has both passive and active means of warfare," said the commander in chief, noting that "the new Morfey complex is capable of destroying everything that moves in the air within the radius of adjacent 5 km."

 

The creation of the Morfey air defense missile system is being carried out by the Almaz-Antey Air Defense Concern's design bureau. Work began in the 2007 year. It is assumed that the new system will go into service with the Russian military air forces to 2015 year. According to unconfirmed data, by this time, the Almaz-Antey air defense system had developed a prototype of a modern air defense system, which was demonstrated at the international MAKS-2011 air show in the city of Zhukovsky. The combat characteristics of the future anti-aircraft missile system remains unknown, but the main technical data of the Almaz-Antey air defense system have been revealed.

  • The command post of the air defense missile system is a combat vehicle on the Tirg or BAZ chassis;

In this case, the fire will be simultaneously carried out on several targets. It is also worth noting that the reaction time is much faster from complexes of the Tor-M1 and Tor-M2 class.

According to the plan, the anti-missile and air defense systems of the Morfey, Vityaz, C-400 Triumph and C-500 Triumfator-M missile defense systems will be included in the East-Kazakhstan oblast system. According to the army, Nikolay Makarov of the General Staff of the Army General, the joint system will create an “umbrella” that would reliably cover the Russian Federation from probable “strikes of cruise and ballistic missiles of various bases, including from extremely low altitudes, regardless of the situation and time.

Today, Russia is significantly superior to the United States in terms of the technical level of its air defense systems and helicopter, but at the same time it is losing much in terms of equipment with unmanned aerial vehicles. In addition, he added that the domestic air defense systems such as C-300 and C-400 repeatedly surpass the main American Patriot system. In addition, active work is being carried out in the Russian Federation to develop new C-500, Morfei and Vityaz complexes.
