According to a spokesman for the US Air Force, in the summer of 2018, a 15-kilowatt combat laser will be installed on the American F-50 fighter jet, capable of striking air, land and sea targets at distances of 20-25 kilometers. Initially, it is planned to test a combat laser in conditions close to combat, after which the question will be raised about the beginning of equipping other combat aircraft with laser weapons.

Experts believe that in the special case, the emergence of fighter aircraft armed with a laser turret in the arsenal of the US Air Force can give a lot of advantages, in particular, the destruction of ground, sea and air objects can be made from a great distance, without risking that the blow will lead to victims among civilians. The main drawback of using laser weapons is a limited supply of energy, which is why the number of laser pulses produced is limited, both their power is limited, and, depending on meteorological conditions, the efficiency of laser weapons can be reduced.
