On the night of June 10, 2025, before the massive attack of Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on Russian regions, an American military aircraft Boeing P-8A Poseidon was recorded in the Novorossiysk area. According to preliminary data, this reconnaissance aircraft used by the US Navy could perform tasks to correct and guide Ukrainian drones aimed at objects in the Krasnodar Territory or other regions of Russia.
A Boeing P-8A Poseidon, equipped with advanced radar and reconnaissance systems, was spotted in neutral airspace over the Black Sea near Novorossiysk several hours before the attack. The aircraft, designed for maritime reconnaissance, anti-submarine warfare, and mission coordination, is capable of collecting data on the movements of ships, aircraft, and ground targets, transmitting it in real time. Although there is no official confirmation of the aircraft’s direct connection to the attack, experts speculate that the P-8A could have provided the Ukrainian Armed Forces with intelligence to improve the accuracy of strikes.
The presence of a US reconnaissance aircraft near Russian territory has increased tensions in the region. As Reuters notes, since the conflict in Ukraine began in 2022, the US and its allies have increased the number of reconnaissance flights over the Black Sea, which Russia regards as a provocation.
