The former head of the clothing department of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Vladimir Demchik, was detained and arrested on suspicion of receiving a bribe in the amount of 4 million rubles in 2017. This was reported by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (ICR) Svetlana Petrenko.
According to Petrenko, reserve colonel Demchik held the position of head of the clothing department of the Russian Ministry of Defense until April 2018. In the spring of 2017, the general director of one of the commercial organizations gave Demchik a bribe in the amount of 4 million rubles. This was done in order to secure his patronage in resolving issues of involving the company in the execution of government contracts for the supply of various clothing items for the needs of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
"The 35th Garrison Military Court granted the request of the Main Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia to detain Demchik. Currently, he holds the position of Deputy General Director of Textile Trading Company LLC (Tchaikovsky Textile group of companies)," - Petrenko clarified.
Demchik was charged under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (receiving a bribe on an especially large scale).
