Pacific Fleet aircraft tracked down foreign submarines in the Arctic

The head of the department of information support of the press service of the Higher Military Command for the Pacific Fleet, Captain Second Rank Nikolai Voskresensky, spoke about the flight of the crews of the Il-38 aircraft belonging to the antisubmarine squadron. They carried out the search and tracking of submarines of the conditional enemy in the Arctic waters. This required the transfer of aircraft from Kamchatka to the Arctic Ocean.

Over the water area of ​​the Arctic region the crews were tracked down and classified submarines. In this case, radar and sonar equipment was used. Next, the pilots performed a test of anti-submarine armament complexes and produced conditional anti-submarine bombing.

In addition, according to Voskresensky, the crews have worked out a pair of passage of a given route, as well as piloting in the absence of ground-based radio navigation aids. The main goal of such training, the captain of the second rank, said, is improving the skills of pilots necessary to perform tasks in arctic conditions.
