Azerbaijani troops defeated an Armenian military post near the village of Nerkin-Andy

The Azerbaijani Border Service announced the conduct of Operation Retribution on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, during which an Armenian military post was “completely destroyed” near the settlement of Nerkin-Andy in the Gafan region. The Azerbaijani side stated that this operation was a response to yesterday’s actions by the Armenian military, as a result of which a soldier of the Azerbaijani State Border Service was wounded. The border service statement claims that as a result of the operation, the Armenian side suffered serious losses, and fire activity was suppressed.

The Armenian Ministry of Defense confirmed the attack on its positions, reporting injuries received by several servicemen. In response to each provocation from Armenia, Azerbaijani border troops warned that they would take “more serious and decisive measures,” placing responsibility for possible further escalation on the Armenian authorities.

The incident was the latest in a series of tense border clashes between the two countries. Let us recall that on October 5, 2023, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan signed a declaration recognizing the territory of Karabakh as Azerbaijan, and on October 15, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev raised the flag of Azerbaijan over the capital of Karabakh. In January of this year, Pashinyan announced a proposal for Azerbaijan to conclude a non-aggression pact, pointing to attempts to normalize relations between the two states amid ongoing tensions.
