Biden: final decision on the supply of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine

The United States has not made a decision to transfer ATACMS missiles to Ukraine.

The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, confirmed that the issue of a possible delivery of long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine is still under discussion. This issue is of particular interest, given that Kyiv has repeatedly stated the need to obtain such weapons capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 300 km. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky categorically emphasized the vital importance of such weapons for the country's army.

However, despite the insistent requests of Ukraine, the American side has so far refrained from satisfying them. Sources in Washington, cited by Politico, express concern about the possible depletion of their own stockpiles of missiles, and also fear the potential use of missiles by Ukraine for attacks on Russian territory, which could lead to an escalation of the conflict.

The US position remained unchanged even after the UK decided to supply Ukraine with long-range Storm Shadow missiles with a range of more than 250 km in May this year. Kyiv has already used these missiles, for example, during strikes on Lugansk on May 12 and 15, as well as for strikes on Mariupol and Berdyansk. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Ukraine continues to actively use Storm Shadow missiles, three of which were intercepted by the military on May 29, and three more a day earlier.

The situation is of concern in the Kremlin, which reacted negatively to reports of long-range weapons supplies from the UK to Ukraine and demanded an "adequate response" from the military. The Russian Foreign Ministry said earlier that deliveries of long-range missiles to Ukraine are considered a "red line" for Moscow.
