US President Joe Biden will not object to Ukraine using Storm Shadow and SCALP-EG cruise missiles provided by Great Britain and France, but refuses to approve strikes by ATACMS systems on Russian territory, the British newspaper The Times reported, citing its own sources in the White House.
Storm Shadow and SCALP-EG missiles have high destructive characteristics. These shells are equipped with a unique warhead design: the first, so-called preliminary, penetrates the barrier, and the second, already penetrating, explodes the object from the inside, causing maximum damage. It is these capabilities that make the missiles so effective in destroying fortified objects and infrastructure.
Biden's decision to maintain restrictions on the use of U.S. ATACMS missiles, known for their ability to strike targets at long distances, is linked to concerns about escalation. The White House administration continues its policy of supporting Ukraine while avoiding direct U.S. involvement in hostilities in Russia.
The Times notes that in recent months, the Ukrainian side has repeatedly asked Washington to allow the use of ATACMS on objects deep in Russian territory. However, as sources emphasize, Biden and his team still adhere to strict restrictions on this issue.
