On September 10, Russian armed forces launched a counteroffensive in the Kursk direction, achieving their first significant successes. The operation, carefully prepared over the past week, led to the liberation of several key settlements and the weakening of enemy positions.
As military blogger Yuriy Podolyaka reports, important news from the front was expected in the morning and by mid-day it became known about the beginning of successful offensive actions of Russian units. The main blow was delivered to the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the area of the village of Snagost, where Russian troops were able to take control of a strategically important area.
The 51st regiment of the 106th airborne division had been preparing a bridgehead for the attack for a week and this morning, unexpectedly for the enemy, Russian paratroopers broke into Snagost, forcing the Ukrainian Armed Forces to retreat in a hurry. The enemy was caught off guard, which allowed Russian troops to advance practically without resistance.
At the same time, the 155th Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet launched a surprise attack from the western direction, advancing on Gordeyevka. This created a threat of encirclement for the Ukrainian units located in the villages of Apanasyevka, Vnezapnoye, Viktorovka and Byakhovo. As a result, the Ukrainian forces were cut off from supplies and were attacked from two flanks.
