Militants from the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, banned in Russia – Avia.pro note) and other armed groups have offered the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) forces to leave the city of Aleppo through a “safe corridor.” According to local sources, the SDF forces located in the Sheikh Maqsoud area have agreed to this offer and have begun an organized withdrawal of their units in the direction of Raqqa.
HTS currently controls about 80% of Aleppo, making them the dominant force in the city. At the same time, the Syrian army and its allies continue to try to stabilize the situation, but their efforts are significantly complicated by the large-scale offensive of the militants, who are actively advancing in key areas.
HTS's offer of a safe exit for the SDF is seen as part of a strategy to establish full control over Aleppo and avoid unnecessary fighting. Experts note that this may be aimed at avoiding protracted fighting in densely populated areas of the city, which could lead to significant destruction and losses for both sides.
The situation in Aleppo remains extremely tense. About 20% of the city remains under SDF control, but it is expected that in the coming hours the city will completely fall under HTS control.
