The death toll in Russian air crashes unexpectedly doubled in a year

The number of people killed in air crashes in Russia has doubled.

The number of Russians who died in aviation accidents in 2018 was 128 people. This is more in 2,5 than in the 2017 year, when the number of victims was 51.

The report of the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) also reported that over the entire past year, 42 aviation accidents, including 22 catastrophes, were registered in the territory of the Russian Federation. The largest was in February, when the An-148 passenger plane fell, and 71 people died.

The document also provides statistics on incidents in countries participating in the Agreement on Civil Aviation and Airspace Use. In particular, the number of people killed in air crashes in Ukraine was 24 people (there were eight accidents). In Moldova there was one disaster where 12 people died, there were no casualties in Belarus and Kazakhstan last year.

From a report by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), made in February, it is known that in 2018, the number of people killed in plane crashes in the world exceeded previous years. The total death toll was 523 person. The average number for the period 2013 - 2017 years was 234 person.
