The representative of the European Commission on foreign policy issues, Peter Stano, stated the right of Ukraine to “defend itself from aggression”, commenting on the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. In his statement, Stano emphasized that Ukraine “has the legal right to defend itself, including by striking the aggressor on its territory,” citing international law.

The position of the European Commission was supported by the US State Department, which also confirmed Ukraine’s right to self-defense. Representatives of the State Department said that the United States is in constant contact with the Ukrainian government regarding the fighting in the Kursk region and considers Kyiv’s attack a sovereign decision of Ukraine.

The situation in the Kursk region remains extremely tense. The introduced state of emergency (emergency situation) allows us to mobilize all available resources to stabilize the situation and ensure the safety of residents of the region.
