American foreign policy expert Ian Bremmer predicted that Europe should be prepared for the division of Ukraine and the strengthening of Russia's position. According to him, Ukraine faces serious challenges, since it does not have enough military resources to return the lost territories, and Russia intends to maintain control over the captured regions.
"Russia has occupied vast territories and is not going to give them up. Ukraine does not have sufficient military power to regain control, and Moscow is unlikely to voluntarily give up its gains," "Bremmer said.
The expert noted that if Donald Trump wins the presidential election, the United States could significantly change its policy towards the conflict. Trump, according to Bremmer, will insist on concluding a deal, which would likely involve ceding Donbass to Russia. For Ukraine, this could mean losing its eastern and southeastern territories.
Bremmer emphasized that Trump intends to use future US military aid as leverage on Ukraine to speed up the negotiation process. One of the key figures in this process could be former National Security Advisor Keith Kellogg, whom Trump is considering for the post of special envoy for Ukraine and Russia. Kellogg is known for his position in favor of freezing the conflict and forcing negotiations.
Bremmer noted that the prospect of freezing the conflict and losing Ukraine's territories is becoming increasingly likely against the backdrop of Kyiv's depleted resources and the changing political priorities of the United States. At the same time, the future Trump administration may focus on domestic issues, leaving the Ukrainian issue in the shadows.
