Finland and Estonia are stepping up cooperation in the area of maritime defense, and one of the key goals is to develop concrete plans to block the movement of the Russian fleet in the Gulf of Finland, said Commander of the Estonian Defense Forces Andrus Merilo in an interview with the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.
According to Merilo, defense cooperation between the two countries is gaining strategic importance against the backdrop of worsening relations with Russia and increased security on Europe's eastern borders. He noted that cooperation between Finland and Estonia is especially important in the context of a possible confrontation with Russia, and that early preparation for such situations is a priority.
