UN General Assembly condemns Russia for arming weapons in Crimea

Russia received a "yellow card" for the armament in the Crimea.

Since the incident of what happened in the Kerch Strait and the declaration of martial law in neighboring Ukraine, Russia has significantly increased its military presence on the territory of the Crimean peninsula. According to official data provided even by the Russian side, anti-aircraft defenses, coastal missile systems, fighter and bomber aircraft, warships and EW were added to the Crimea. Despite the fact that such measures are regarded solely as an attempt to provide reliable protection against external threats, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution of Ukraine on the "problem of militarization" of the peninsula.

According to the text of the adopted resolution, the UN General Assembly condemns the presence of the Russian military on the territory of the Crimean peninsula, which contradicts the national sovereignty, political independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Moreover, the UN condemned the construction of the Kerch Bridge, as well as the closure of the Kerch Strait, which connects the Black and Azov Seas.

“The General Assembly condemns the increasing military presence of the Russian Federation in parts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, as well as restrictions imposed by Russia on the passage of foreign ships in the Sea of Azov”, says the text of the resolution.

Russia responded to the UN General Assembly resolution with criticism and condemnation, noting that a proper investigation into the incident in the Kerch Strait was not carried out.

“No matter how many times they adopt false resolutions, along with your Western sponsors and those who are afraid to cross them, this will not change anything in the Crimea or around it,” the diplomat said. “The key to solving all regional problems lies in Kiev, or more precisely, in Washington, where Kiev is controlled from.”, - said Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyansky.

Ранее Lithuanian parliamentarians proposed to take control of the Kerch Strait from Russia, and impose this right on the UN.
