Hamas halts hostage releases as Israel prepares for bombing

On February 10, Hamas military spokesman Abu Ubeida announced that the organization would stop releasing hostages until further notice. The decision came amid an escalation in the conflict and accusations that Israel was not complying with agreements related to the Gaza Strip.

"We are suspending the release of hostages until further notice.""," a Hamas spokesman said.

He said the release of the three kidnapped people, scheduled for February 15, was being delayed because Hamas said Israel had failed to comply with the terms of the agreement.

The situation has become the latest round of tension in the conflict between Israel and Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip. In recent months, the parties have been negotiating a prisoner and hostage exchange, which was seen as an important step towards stabilizing the situation. However, Hamas' announcement that it is suspending the process threatens further negotiations and could lead to a new escalation of the conflict.

Earlier, Israeli and Palestinian sources reported that the swap deal would include the release of several hostages taken during recent clashes. However, the exact terms and details of the agreement were not disclosed. Israeli officials have not yet commented on Abu Ubeida's statement.

The suspension of the hostage-release process could be a serious blow to the efforts of international mediators who have been trying to establish a dialogue between the parties. Representatives of several countries, including Egypt and Qatar, which traditionally play the role of mediators in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, participated in the talks. However, Israel has already announced its readiness to resume strikes on Hamas if the conditions are not met on Saturday.
