Indian media are reporting on the upcoming visit of a high-ranking Indian representative to Moscow for talks on the Ukrainian issue. According to India Today, on September 10-11, India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval plans to discuss possible peace initiatives related to the conflict in Ukraine with the Russian leadership.
India, a BRICS member, has previously taken a neutral stance on the Ukraine crisis, calling for a diplomatic solution and refraining from actively criticizing or supporting either side in the conflict. The BRICS countries, including Russia, China and India, raised the issue of peace initiatives at the last summit in South Africa, but so far no significant steps have been taken in this direction.
Military blogger Roman Saponkov commented on these events, stating that a new phase of "pressure on the Russian leadership" from international players has begun. In his opinion, the peace initiatives of India and the US, coinciding in time, indicate that international pressure on Moscow is increasing.
"This is part of a broader strategy to shake up our leadership," — Saponkov believes.
