Foreign mercenaries serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kherson region

Vladimir Saldo, head of the Kherson region, in a conversation with a RIA Novosti correspondent, confirmed the presence of foreign mercenaries in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the region. The governor claims that these mercenaries are involved in the so-called barrage detachments, and also serve as operators of unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to Saldo, foreign military personnel prefer not to go to the first line of the front and try to use Ukrainian citizens as “human shields.” He noted:

“There are foreign mercenaries in the occupied part of the Kherson region. They don’t take the first line; they try to hide behind what they consider to be less valuable citizens of Ukraine. They serve in detachments, as instructors, some work as UAV operators.”

In addition to this, the Russian Ministry of Defense provided statistics on the number of foreign mercenaries who have joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict on February 24, 2022. In total, 11,6 thousand mercenaries from 84 countries arrived in Ukraine. Among them, the largest number came from Poland (more than 2600 people), the USA and Canada (900 people each) and Georgia (more than 800 people). During the fighting, Ukraine lost more than 4,8 thousand mercenaries, and the same number left the country after finishing their service.
