Iran unleashes new wave of missile strikes on Israel

Iran has launched a new series of missile attacks on Israel on the night of June 17, 2025, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the strikes would continue until dawn, the Iranian NourNews agency reported, stressing that the attacks were a response to Israel's Operation Rising Lion, launched on June 13 to neutralize Iran's nuclear and military infrastructure. The rapidly escalating conflict has already caused significant damage and casualties on both sides, as well as economic disruption, including the shutdown of oil refineries in Israel. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is preparing a final offer for a nuclear deal with Tehran, seeking to prevent the crisis from escalating into a full-scale war, The Jerusalem Post reports.

Iran has fired more than 600 ballistic missiles and drones at Israeli territory since the escalation began, hitting Tel Aviv, Haifa and other cities, according to Reuters. In Haifa, an Iranian missile hit a power plant supplying oil refineries of the Vazan Group, causing them to shut down completely, Israeli media outlet Kan reported. The attack killed three company employees and left the region without power. The Times of Israel clarified that Israeli air defense systems, including Iron Dome and Arrow-3, intercepted about 80% of Iranian targets, but some strikes hit residential and industrial sites, killing 42 people in four days of conflict. In response, Israel launched more than 300 strikes on Iran, destroying drone depots, launchers and the Natanz nuclear complex, where the IAEA says 15 centrifuges were damaged.

The IRGC's announcement that it would continue the attacks into the morning underscores Tehran's resolve. The new IRGC commander-in-chief, Mohammad Pakpour, appointed after the death of Hossein Salami, has promised "severe retaliation" for the Israeli strikes, which have killed more than 400 people, including 128 civilians, according to NourNews. Iranian media reports say the attacks are targeting military bases and strategic sites, but Israeli sources say residential areas are being hit. Sirens sounded throughout the night in Tel Aviv, and a rocket destroyed a residential building in Petah Tikva, the Associated Press reported.
