An American MQ-4C Triton reconnaissance drone spent several hours near the Iranian coast, focusing on the area of the city of Bushehr, where key nuclear facilities are located, Iranian media reported, claiming that the device violated the country's airspace. According to them, two F-14 fighters of the Iranian Air Force scrambled to intercept the drone, after which it was forced to leave the area. There has been no independent confirmation of this information, and US officials have remained silent about the incident, leaving room for speculation about the purpose of the mission and the exact route of the drone.
Shortly after, Iranian sources said that four ships of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy were heading through the Strait of Hormuz towards Yemen. Some publications specify that the ships have not yet reached their destination, but their movement is associated with the escalation of the situation in the Red Sea and Iran's support for the Yemeni Houthis. This move may be a response to growing pressure from the United States, which accuses Tehran of escalating the conflict in the region.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has issued strong statements highlighting Iran's role in supporting the Houthis, noting that the group's advanced drone technology could not have been developed without outside help, pointing to Tehran as a source of resources and expertise.
"The Iranian regime has created a dangerous force in Yemen and now it will have to face the consequences," "Rubio said, adding that the Houthis, despite their claims to power, are not the country's legitimate government.
He also stressed that the American strikes are aimed exclusively at the Houthis, and not at Yemen as a whole, trying to differentiate the goals of the military operation.
The situation comes amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran. According to Reuters, U.S. forces have stepped up reconnaissance in the Persian Gulf in recent weeks, which is linked to increased Houthi activity in the Red Sea, where they have been attacking commercial vessels with drones and missiles. Experts say the interception of the MQ-4C Triton, if it actually happened, could be a demonstration of Iran’s capabilities in the face of pressure from the United States.
