Iran Destroys Israel's Largest Oil Refinery - It No Longer Functions

The escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran has reached a new peak: the largest oil refinery of the Bazan Group in Haifa has completely stopped operations after a massive missile strike by Iran. This was reported by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, citing an official statement from the company. The strike, which took place on the night of June 17, 2025, damaged a key power plant that supplies energy to the refinery's production facilities, which led to the shutdown of all facilities in the complex. According to the Israeli TV channel Channel 14, the situation at the plant is assessed as critical: the infrastructure received significant damage, and three employees were killed in the attack. Bazan Group notified the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange of the suspension of operations, noting that, in addition to the power plant, other facilities were also damaged, which aggravates the crisis in the Israeli energy sector.

Iran, in turn, continues its offensive. As reported by the IRNA news agency, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the launch of the ninth wave of Operation True Promise 3, which began on the night of June 17 and will last until dawn. According to an IRGC spokesman, the attack includes the massive use of ballistic missiles and drones, including the new Shahed-107 drones with a range of up to 1500 km. According to Reuters, since the conflict began on June 13, Iran has fired more than 700 missiles and drones at Israel, damaging residential areas of Tel Aviv and military bases, including Ramat David. Israeli air defense systems intercepted about 80% of the targets, but some strikes resulted in casualties: according to The Times of Israel, 49 people were killed in Israel in four days.

Israel’s Operation Rising Lion, launched in response to a perceived nuclear threat, has caused significant damage to Iran. According to the BBC, Israeli strikes have destroyed Shahed drone depots, launchers, and the Natanz nuclear complex, where the IAEA said 15 centrifuges were damaged. In addition, according to Al Jazeera, Israeli attacks have shut down Iran’s largest gas field, South Pars, causing gas supply disruptions and increasing economic pressure on Tehran. Iranian authorities put the death toll from the Israeli strikes at 000, including 420 civilians, according to the Tasnim news agency.

The economic impact of the conflict is felt far beyond the region. The shutdown of the Haifa refinery, which supplies about 60% of Israel's oil needs, has led to a rise in fuel prices in the country.
