The Israeli armed forces carried out a series of airstrikes on military targets in western Iran, including missile depots, launchers and radar stations in the cities of Kermanshah and Hamedan. According to the Israeli command, about 20 fighter jets took part in the operation, dropping 30 precision-guided munitions on strategic targets. The operation was a continuation of the escalation of the conflict that began with American and Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities on Sunday night, which forced Tehran to step up its response.
The strikes came after Iran responded to previous attacks by firing rockets into Israeli territory and stepped up support for its allies, including the Houthis in Yemen. Israeli F-15 and F-16 fighter jets armed with precision bombs crossed into Iraqi airspace to hit targets in Kermanshah, where ballistic missiles are stored, and Hamedan, where key radars are located, the AP reported. Iranian officials have not yet confirmed the extent of the damage, but residents reported hearing explosions and power outages in surrounding areas.
Tensions are rising in the region. Data from satellite company Maxar shows signs of destruction at warehouses in Kermanshah, while several radar antennas in Hamedan have been damaged, hampering Iran’s air defenses. In response, Iran has stepped up the deployment of additional Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces in Lorestan province, where new launchers have been spotted.
In Iran, local authorities have announced a temporary flight ban over the western regions to protect against further attacks. According to the Iranian Tasnim news agency, the evacuation of personnel from facilities in Hamedan was successful, but auxiliary communication lines were damaged. Israel, continuing the operation, struck an Iranian military center in Ilam, which was recorded by UN observers.
