Israel Destroys Up to 40 Iranian Air Defense Systems

On June 14, 2025, Araz News reported, citing an Israeli intelligence official, that Israel may have destroyed up to 40 Iranian air defense systems, including the Khordad-15 and S-300 systems, during Operation Rising Lion. The strikes on the night of June 13 knocked out a significant portion of Iran's air defenses from the western border to Tehran, giving the Israeli Air Force temporary air superiority. The New York Times also reported this, citing Iranian military sources who expressed concern about the vulnerability of the facilities after the attacks.

According to the IDF, 70 fighter jets attacked more than 40 targets in the Tehran area last night, including ballistic missile depots and command posts. The exact number of targets hit was not specified, but according to Brigadier General Effie Defrin, "the skies of Iran are open for our operations." As part of the operation, Israel also struck the Farda Motors automobile plant in Borujerd, which, according to the Iranian Fars news agency, was used to produce missile components. The plant suffered significant damage, and the number of casualties is being clarified.

Iranian media reported the death of shooter Hamid Jumari, the third athlete killed in Israeli attacks. Jumari, a well-known international competitor, was in Tehran when the attack hit a residential area. The total number of victims in the attacks, according to the Mehr news agency, has reached 78 people, including IRGC commander Hossein Salami and Chief of General Staff Mohammad Bagheri. More than 320 people were injured.
