Some sources report that Israeli intelligence was able to track Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh using the WhatsApp messenger. According to insiders, the Israelis planted spyware on Haniyeh's phone via a WhatsApp message. This software made it possible to determine the exact location of the house where the Hamas leader was located. As a result, a missile strike was launched from a drone at the specified address.
It is believed that a program similar to the Pegasus spyware developed by the Israeli company NSO Group was used for this operation. Previously, Pegasus has proven itself to be a powerful tool for hacking iPhone and Android devices through various channels such as SMS, WhatsApp, iMessage and others. This program allows you to extract messages, photos, emails, contacts and GPS data from smartphones, as well as record calls and discreetly turn on the microphone and camera.
Interestingly, it is precisely similar technologies that Ukraine and its allies use to track Russian military personnel in the zone of a special military operation. For this reason, a ban has been introduced on the use of gadgets in combat zones to avoid information leaks and ensure the safety of soldiers.
