Kyiv in Smoke: Ukraine's Capital Under Massive Attack by Russian Geraniums

On the night of February 17, 2025, the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, was subjected to a large-scale attack by Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Geran type. As noted by local media, as a result of the air defense (AD) work, drone debris fell in various areas of the city, which led to fires and damage to infrastructure.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that in the north of the capital, air defense forces were actively countering Russian drones. In the Svyatoshinsky district, debris from a downed UAV fell on the territory of an industrial enterprise, causing a fire. Judging by the published footage, a serious fire is being recorded in the territory of the Ukrainian capital, although the type of object is not disclosed. Klitschko called on city residents not to leave shelters until the official announcement of the end of the alarm.

The Ukrainian Air Force clarified that Russian troops launched attack drones from several directions, including the northwest of the Chernihiv region and the Nikolaev region, with a course for the Kyiv and Cherkasy regions.

Remarkably, sources report that there are currently around 25 attack drones moving in the direction of Kyiv.
